A JUNIOR football team have been given a helping hand to kickstart their 2013 campaign - by netting a brand new kit and charitable sponsor.

People connected to Barlby Raiders FC all clubbed together to pay for the new vibrant kit for the under 8s to wear and finish off their 2012/13 season in style.

Emblazoned on the front of the jerseys is the Selby Hands of Hope logo after the club approached the charity for support.

The young budding Beckhams could not wait to get their hands on the new kits but with no game on at the weekend, they decided to train in them instead at their 3G pitches at Barlby High School on Saturday.

Manager Richard Wilks said: “The team love their kits, they were delighted when they saw them and couldn’t wait to get to the training ground.

“They all picked the kit and because I know Richard Singh at Selby Hands of Hope well, we approached him to ask about sponsorship and they were more than happy to help.

“It’s great that we can get this kit and have a good, local sponsor to support us.

“Everyone has put in for the kit themselves, it’s been a fantastic effort.”

The under 8s will be sporting their new colours during Saturday’s home game in the Selby and District Junior Football League against Wheldrake Juniors FC. Kick-off is 10.30am at the pitch in York Road.

Richard Singh, of volunteer-driven charity Selby Hands of Hope (SHOH) which boosts community projects through fundraising, said: “All at SHOH are honoured to be involved in grassroots football within the local area and thank Barlby Raiders for giving us this fantastic opportunity to support them as they support us.

“It was a pleasure to meet the players and coaches on Saturday, they look a very enthusiastic group and were a credit to Richard Wilks, Jamie Hamblin and Lee Ogle. We wish them all the best for the remainder of the season.”
