Olden Times, November 1 - Ousegate riverside in 1978.

HOPERFULLY the risk of the River Ouse overflowing into Ousegate, Selby, near the toll bridge has passed once again.

But casting one’s mind back to what the Ousegate riverside looked like in 1978 seems eons ago.

Here’s a typical scene of just one of the Ousegate jetties near the Nelson public house.

Six barges and a coaster, all bringing custom to Selby and the surrounding area.

Looking at todays once busy Ousegate jetties almost makes one spill tears in their tea, but that’s enough for now before i’m accused of getting the violin out!
