Keeping warm - help for older people
OLDER people sometimes struggle to keep warm in winter, but in Rotherham there is free help available.
Whether people own a home or live in rented housing, they can take advantage of Age UK Rotherham’s help that includes the following;
Information packs on how to keep warm,
tips and advice with home heating,
‘keeping warm’ packs that include a blanket, socks, mug and thermometer,
practical handyman help with heating systems and showing how best to save money,
advice on additional payments and entitlements that are available, including Warm Home Discount and small grants to help with bills.
Lesley Dabell, Age UK Rotherham’s Chief Executive said: “We know that older people are more vulnerable at this time of year.
“Even in a mild winter there are more deaths in our older population because of the cold. We also know that older people are worrying about the cost of heating their homes and sometimes do not understand what help is available or how to make the most economic use of their heating systems.
The range of support we can offer has grown and we would encourage older people to contact us and make use of this free help.”
