Selby High School treads career path
FUTURE aspirations were aired among Selby High School students as they looked to life beyond the school classroom.
Year 11 students attended an Opportunity Awareness Session, co-ordinated by school careers advisor Julie Fearn.
Mrs Fearn (above with student Billy Glasby) joined consultants from Selby College and York Training College to explain the options for those in search of apprenticeships when they leave school later this year.
The school is also on the look out for any businesses able to offer a taste of life in the workplace this summer.
Work experience student Emma Gough described her placement at JSR Genetics in Thorpe Willoughby last year as a ‘life-changing experience’.
“I learnt so much. It also helped me find a career route. Hopefully they will let students volunteer there in future years and if they do I strongly recommend it.
“They were all really friendly and great to work with, they treated me like an adult and let me do all aspects of the job that they did. Also they were very keen on hygiene in the building for the safety of the animals so I had to shower before entering to see the boars and shower on exit.”
Any companies wishing to offer work experience from July 2 to 6 should contact Janet Falkingham on 01757 244814.
