Top trophy for Trophies

AN ENGRAVING business with a family touch has been crowned the champion of our growth-boosting Local Business Accelerators initiative.

LRB Trophies was chosen as the winning entrant by Selby MP Nigel Adams and Selby Times editor Chris Page from an impressive short-list of other fledgling businesses in the district.

The Selby-based company, which was set up in April last year, will now benefit from expert tutoring from business guru Mr Adams and an advertising campaign in the Selby Times.

Steve Butler, of LRB Trophies, said: “It’s very good that we’ve been acknowledged in this way so soon after we began operating.

“It’s 110 per cent good for us and for the local area.”

The Market Lane business is named after the initials of Steve’s gorgeous 18-month-old daughter Lyla Rose Butler. Steve’s brother Andrew handles most of the actual engraving work, with their aunt Janet Corbett keeping the books.

Former Argos manager Steve, 32, who has a degree in product design from York St John University, added: “I wanted to spend more time with Lyla so we decided to throw ourselves into the business.

“Janet’s late husband, Frank, had a similar operation and after he died, we inherited his stock.”

Mr Adams – who transformed a £20-a-week grant into a multi-million pound telecoms business – said: “I was impressed by all of the businesses put forward and it was a very difficult decision.

“I was particularly impressed by the Butler family and the fact that they’d chosen an area where there was a gap in the market. I could see that they would benefit from advertising in the Selby Times.”

Praising the number of business start-ups across the local area, he said: “We’re lucky to live in quite an entrepreneurial district, and it’s great that we have family businesses like LRB Trophies being set up. I’m only too pleased to offer them what help I can.”

Selby Times editor Chris Page said: “The LBA initiative has quite literally proved just the business, highlighting entrepreneurial enterprise in this area is very much alive and well, kicking against doom-mongers’ gloom.

“Selby Times is pleased and proud to help accelerate all local businesses with our time-honoured tried, tested and trusted advertising experience across increasingly popular print and online platforms.

“Our finalists all showed creditable acumen, with LRB Trophies rightly adjudged best of the rest to enjoy concerted complimentary commercial support, as well as mentoring by no less a proven professional as MP Nigel Adams.

“Our Local Business Accelerators trophy fittingly goes to a town-based family affair that promises to raise the trade and commerce bar even higher in this Olympic year.”
