Wetherspoon bid for Selby submitted
PUB chain JD Wetherspoon has formally submitted their planning bid to convert a former furniture store into a high street pub.
Selby Times revealed exclusively back in November last year that the pub giant had bought the former Everatts store in Gowthorpe.
Selby District Council planners hope to make a decision on the site’s change of use by March 12 after consultation with neighbours and members of the public.
JD Wetherspoon commonly invests more than a million to develop a new site and about 40 jobs are created in the process.
Selby MP Nigel Adams has praised the move of another major employer towards Selby district, calling it a major ‘sign of confidence’ in the town.
Selby Chamber spokesman Richard Schofield also praised the new pub as ‘fantastic news for the town’.
If given permission, the new pub would be developed in the store where Everatts traded for 75 years before it closed in September last year.
