Youngster jumps to even more titles

A TALENTED youngster has given his jockey dreams a further boost winning more gongs in his latest showjumping competition - and he is only nine-years-old.

Despite his fledgling years, fearless Kieran Heslop is already proving a name for himself on the showjumping circuit, beating adult riders since first competing at the age of six.

The Selby Community Primary School pupil’s latest achievements came at York’s Port Royal Equestrian Centre show where he won ‘Ridden Champion’, two firsts and as many seconds.

Committed Kieran, who rides with a pony called Tiny, trains as soon as he finishes school and wants to complete his Level Two pony riding course.

Kieran’s grandmother, Pat Heslop, whom he lives with in Flaxley Road, Selby, helps him train but says the youngster does most of it himself.

The 48-year-old said: “He’s an absolute natural and completely fearless, he did brilliantly at Port Royal.

“He’s started training to go sideways and wants to eventually become a jockey.”

Kieran, who has already been accepted as a student at Doncaster’s Northern Racing College when he reaches the age of 16, is also appealing for sponsorship.
