Speed ramps are efficient
HOW right are your two correspondents - Coun Boatman and Paul Thompson - in their comments about the ongoing opposition to speed ramps in Goole and the constant harping on by some councillors and members of the public.
There is no doubt as to the efficiency of speed ramps and 20mph limits in built-up areas and the plans should be carried through as a matter of course.
Should some Goole councillors/residents wish to make a more significant protest then I suggest that they and the much photographed Goole MP tackle the eyesore that is the railway underpass.
There has been no improvement to the underpass since I first visited Goole in 1982.
The detritus that litters it, along with the water that collects, says to the visitor: "You are now going to the other side of the tracks" with all that that wrongly implies.
We have read that Network Rail bosses have been rewarded with good bonuses.
If Network Rail is responsible for the underpass then they have the money for improvements instead of rewarding their managers.
If they are not responsible, then the town councillors should seek assistance from ERYC and forget about speed ramps etc.
I look forward to seeing our MP posing in the underpass with a suitable placard.
