IT WAS kind of Sally Burns Head of Housing and Public Protection for East Riding of Yorkshire Council to recently write to Courier readers in the style of an agony aunt.
It could in fact be a new feature - Ask Aunt Sally - and in fact here is a problem.

Dear Aunt Sally, I am sure that it is a coincidence that the sudden progress regarding Richard Cooper Street and Phoenix Street is after the first in the series by Kevin McCloud on Channel 4, Mondays at 9pm of the Big Town plan in Castleford.

No doubt our wait of a few weeks for your further action is to give you time to see the remainder of the series and then follow their steps, which in fact they started some five years ago.

If you do follow their example it will mean you have to inform and even involve the local community - a huge change in direction for ERYC.

We have had numerous promises before of imminent progress and the fourth anniversary is looming of the start of ERYC emptying these streets.

Can someone design a proper scheme that is acceptable to all members of the community and then move forward with their support?

Robert Smith
