A wizz on the guitar
SELBY Town Hall welcomes one of the fathers of English folk, and arguably the world’s finest fingerstyle guitarist, John Renbourn, on October 14.
Perhaps best known as a founding member of folk rock royalty Pentangle, John has gone on to become one of the most diverse performers treading the boards today.
John began playing music at school in the 1950s where he studied classical guitar and became fascinated by English early music.
In the 1960s, after experimenting with the new trend for r’n’b during his time at Kingston College of Art, and with the UK ‘folk revival’ in full swing he formed Pentangle,
John is joined in Selby by guitarist Wizz Jones (pictured), another stalwart of the 60s Soho scene who helped to launch the careers of Ralph McTell and Steve Tilston and used to busk alongside Rod Stewart.
Wizz’s songs have been covered by Bruce Springsteen.Doors for the show open at 7.30pm for an 8pm start. Tickets are £12 in advance and £14 on the door.
