Cash boost for green fingered
RHS Yorkshire in Bloom has launched a 100,000 fund. Pictured are the new RHS Regional Development Team who will give advice and support to community groups.
HUNDREDS of community gardeners and dozens of Selby district schools could be set to benefit from a slice of £100,000 being distributed by the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS).
People from across the region can now apply for funds and support to green-up and improve their neighbourhood as the RHS launches a new three-year investment programme, the Regional Development project.
Currently, there are 80,000 community gardeners and 1,600 schools in Yorkshire who can apply for these funds which will help local initiatives to create community gardens and growing spaces improving pocket parks and the public spacs in towns and villages across Yorkshire.
Small grants of up to £500 are available for groups that require start-up funding and for larger projects, gardening groups can apply for bigger funds between £5,000 amd£10,000. The RHS has also created a Regional Development Team who will work directly with gardening groups to provide practical support and inspiration at a local level.
RHS Head of Regional Development, Andrea Van Sittart, said: “The RHS already works with hundreds of communities across Britain. With the support of incredible partners, we are able to provide fresh investment and hands-on expertise at a local level, supporting the future growth of community gardening at the grassroots.”
The deadline for applicationsm is March 15, visit http://www.rhs.org.uk/Gardening/Community-gardening/Britain-in-Bloom-exhibitors/Welcome/RHS-Yorkshire-in-Bloom---Community-Fund
