FILMING begins this week on Selby’s very own barfly-on-the-wall documentary.

Ian Wright, venue manager at the Riverside on Ousegate, said the cameras will be installed in his Riverside club on Friday, with filming beginning on Saturday.

Footage will be edited and then first appear on their own website. Sky TV will then make a decision on whether they want it for a TV series.

All being well, we could be seeing the local band venue and local people in an ongoing TV saga in around 6 months’ time.

Ian said: “I got the original idea to do this about a year ago. I pitched it to Sky and they’ve been really interested.”

The idea is to show life in the club but also some of the life of its patrons. He has handpicked six customers.

Three Selby men, whose names he can reveal who will star in the pilot internet series are Greg ‘Greggles’ Winter and Dave Stanton and his identical twin ‘Maff’.

He said: “We will do their back story as well. We will follow them around in their every day lives.”

Two video production companies are vying for the chance to produce the series, if it gets the okay from Sky. One of which made the hit show The Only way is Essex.

A series of cameras would be fixed in place in the club, another will be hand held by a film maker who will provide additional material and interviews.

Ian, who is a drummer in the heavy rock band, Asomvel, said the Riverside gets a mix of bands and attracts revellers from Leeds and York.

The venue is about to inaugurate a second stage for smaller acts - including acoustic musicians, comedians and burlesque performers.

Ian said: “We have a real mix of bands. Primarily it’s a rock bar, but we have punk nights indie nights and mod nights which are very successful.

“We get people from York and Leeds and further afield, as well.”
