Kim Brodie, from Doncaster, wowed the crowd and judging panel at the Open Mic UK Regional Showcase, and she is now one of five acts representing Yorkshire in what will be the semi finals of the national competition.

A TALENTED vocalist from Selby is hoping to deliver the goods when she performs in the semi-final of a national music competition.

Kim Brodie, who works at Selby Post Office, is hoping to hit the big time through the Open Mic UK 2012 contest.

The former Brayton High School student (right) will be one of five acts representing Yorkshire at the showpiece on November 24 after she stormed through the Regional final in Dewsbury.

She said: “I am thrilled. I am just one step away from winning.”

If Kim is successful at the Area final, she will progress to the National Grand Final at the O2 in London on January 19 next year.

In Dewsbury, Kim wowed the crowd and judging panel with a rendition of Black Heart.

Thousands of acts entered Open Mic UK 2012, with the best unsigned singers from across the country competing for the chance to grab a breakthrough recording contract.

A spokesperson for Open Mic UK said: “We are searching for an act that not only has the live ability to impress an audience, industry judges and A&R associates, but an act that has the potential to become a professional recording artist. Acts that have made it are just one step away from performing at the best live music venue in the country!”

There’s more than £50,000 in prizes up for grabs with the overall winner getting significant investment. They’ll also have the opportunity to tour across the UK.

Kim also won the prize of £250 worth of time in a recording studio for having the most publicity for the show. Tickets to watch the show are available from Kim for £9. Contact Kim at www.facebook.com/kim.brodie.393.
