Youth Cabaret

VENUE Junction is holding its first Youth Cabaret of the season next month and has put out an official call for young people to take part and see if opportunity knocks for them.

The organisers say that the cabaret is a chance for young people to showcase their talent.

All styles of performance from dance to magic as well as singing and acting are welcome – submissions will be taken with the successful applicants having the chance to perform in front of a live audience.

Nicola Dixon, youth and community arts co-ordinator at Junction is putting the event together.

She said: “Youth Cabaret is a new idea, and gives young people up to the age of 25 a performance opportunity with their smaller scale work.

“We know that there is a lot of young talent out there and we would like to be able to showcase it.

“We are interested in young people who may have a quirky monologue they can perform, or who can make people laugh with a short stand up routine, amaze with magic, astound with their musicality or entertain with their acrobatic or circus skills.

“Come on – this is your chance to shine.”

Performers have to be aged between 13 and 25-years-old to take part and perform for a maximum of ten minutes.

Applicants should submit a description of what they would like to do to Nicola.gtc@btconnect.com by January 25.

Tickets for the Youth Cabaret on February 15 are priced at £4 and are available from Junction’s box office on 01405 763652.

* A new group, Ukulele Junction, is being launched on January 17 (note the different date from that advertised) which is encouraging young people aged 11 and over to learn the popular instrument.

The group costs £4.50 a week and runs from 6pm- 8pm at Junction.
