Pubs nominated for fine real ales
PUBS that provide the very best in real ales could see their name up in lights.
Three local hostelries have received nominations to appear in this year's national Good Beer Guide.
Those up for the prestigious award are the Brewers Arms on Pontefract Road in Snaith, Jemmy Hirst at the Rose and Crown in Rawcliffe and the Macintosh Arms in Goole.
All three are members of the East Yorkshire CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ales) branch.
Chris Smith, general manager at the Brewers Arms, said this was the first time the pub had been nominated since 1994.
"It's been a very long time," he said. "I think we've been selected now because of the quality of the beer. We keep it in prime condition and we're constantly changing it.
"We have more than four real ales all the time with varying colour, and different tastes to keep it fresh and interesting."
Chris has been at the pub for 18 months and has 12 staff.
Ian Round, chairman of CAMRA's Doncaster and District Branch, said: "I can confirm these nominations have been made, but I must emphasise that at this stage it is only a nomination and its final inclusion would be the decision of HQ.
"It would be surprising, however, if they were not now included."
