Musical version of classic film is taking to the stage
THE story of a group of out-of-work steelworkers who decided to strip off to raise some cash took the world by storm.
Bafta award-winning film The Full Monty is being brought to the stage next month in Sheffield - the city where the original was set.
Four budding stars Jay Olpin, 13, Travis Caddy, 13, Ewan Revill, 10, and 11-year-old Jack Hillington have been recruited to play put-upon youngster Nathan, whose cash-strapped dad, Gaz, comes up with the striptease money-maker.
Sheffield Theatres will give the heartwarming story a new lease of life when the world premiere opens at the Lyceum next month.
Artistic director Daniel Evans said: “Since making my home in Sheffield, I have been eager to bring this funny and heartwarming story back to the city and I am sure this is a theatrical event that will make the whole of Yorkshire proud.”
Featuring songs from the film by Donna Summer, Rod Stewart, Hot Chocolate and Tom Jones, The Full Monty stars Sidney Cole (Absolutely Fabulous) as Horse, Kenny Doughty (Stella) as Gaz, Craig Gazey (Coronation Street) as Lomper, Roger Morlidge (The English Patient) as Dave, Keiran O’Brien (Nine Songs) as Guy and Simon Rouse (The Bill) as Gerald.
The show runs from February 2 to 23 at Sheffield Lyceum before embarking on a UK tour. Tickets are now on sale. Visit Sheffield Theatres or call 0114 2496000.
