Explorers to tell of their Everest trip
TWO intrepid local explorers will be re-living their trip to the top of the world at Wath Library later this month.
Colleagues David Peckett and John Driskell will be giving a talk about their trip to Everest base camp in the 1960s.
Retired teacher David, of Wath, and John, of Sheffield, will illustrate their talk with pictures of their journey, which saw them and three other friends drive from Barnsley to Kathmandu via Afghanistan. They will tell all about their trek from Kathmandu to Everest base camp, as well as charting the developments they saw in the region, when they returned last year.
Their reminiscences are the subject of a book - ‘Everest - the Old Way’, which was released just before Christmas.
They will give the talk on their Himalyan adventures on Thursday, February 23, at 6.30pm.
Admission is free and refreshments will be available.
