Teaspoons will be serving up entertainment

PERFORMING arts company Question your Teaspoons is back in town at the weekend with their second instalment in a series of events aimed at boosting Goole Market.

Run by former Goole residents, Sheena Holliday and Chris Williams, QYT will be presenting a range of free events between noon and 5pm on Saturday as part of their Mayhem in the Market project.

Love Letters and Broken Hearts follows the warmly received launch of the scheme as part of the Goole Christmas lights switch-on at the end of November.

For Saturday’s event, QYT have commissioned a further eight artists from all over the country, from as far afield as London, Brighton and Cumbria. They will present work that might usually be seen in theatres, comedy venues and galleries. The work will also be inspired by St Valentine’s Day.

The event, which is supported by The National Lottery through Arts Council England funding, as well as Goole Town Council, Junction and The Lowther Hotel, will feature a short film by R&A Collaborations, as well as a large scale ‘love letter’ to Goole Market, created by artist Tim Smith.

Catherine Hoffmann will be painting portraits of ex-partners based on audience descriptions, which will then either be shredded, hung up, sung to or pelted with vegetables, depending on the spin of a wheel.

Melissa Bliss will be bringing 300 cupcakes, onto which visitors will be invited to write messages of love and Gary Bridgens will be teaching Ukulele love songs with his touring project Uke Can Do It.

Also appearing at the festival will be the award-winning Levantes Dance Theatre, who received the Samuel Beckett Theatre Trust Award in 2009 and have toured around the world.

There will be regular flash-mob style performances from local company Drunken Chorus and the Lowther Hotel’s Bar Absolut will be serving love-themed cocktails.

In addition to the professional artists there will be an acoustic corner – with open mic throughout the day. All musicians, poets, comedians etc are welcome to come along and play a couple of songs.
