q THIS Christmas visitors to the National Railway Museum in York will be able to take a festive ride on a working steam train and help Santa find his missing presents.

Every Friday, Saturday and Sunday between November 29 and December 23, families will begin their seasonal journey through the museum’s Station Hall which has been transformed into a magical depot filled with Yuletide decorations.

Following the success of last year’s winter treat, the museum is pulling out all the stops to make 2012 a Christmas to remember. The festive experience begins in Santa’s Depot which promises to be even more magical this year with plenty of decorations, twinkling lights, activities to entertain the children, a new story to get involved in and the addition of Santa’s sleigh which needs filling with presents.

From here Santa’s helpers will then climb on board a beautiful festive carriage pulled by a steam train and snuggle up in blankets to take part in a special interactive story telling session. Before the steam journey is over, children will meet Santa Claus himself and receive a special present to take home. Adults will also be treated to a hot drink and mince pie in the museum’s restaurant to warm them up.

Noel Hartley, Rail Events Coordinator at the National Railway Museum said: “Last year’s event was a huge success and we’re planning an even more magical experience this year. Our steam rides are popular all year round, so we know that families will be thrilled to be able to help Santa find his presents, meet the man himself and visit Santa’s depot all in one day!”

Bookings are now being taken for the event and members of the public are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance as places fill up quickly.

Visit www.nrm.org.uk/christmas to plan your special visit and call 0844 8153139 to book. Tickets: £10 child (age 1–15), £6 adult - which includes a mince pie and hot drink.
