JOIN in the trail of historic buildings and sites during Heritage Open Days across Howdenshire and Marshlands later this year.
There will be a range of activities during the event which takes place in September, and this year the Howden Heritage Weekend group have chosen the theme of 'Historic Buildings'.
Included will be sites and premises which are of historic, conserva
tion or other interest - as well as those that have been lost.
In addition, other local organisations, families or individuals in Howdenshire and nearby areas have also been invited to collaborate on events, publicity and promotion.
In Howdenshire, the focus will be on Saturday September 12 when there will be exhibits and displays in Howden's Shire Hall all day, but with other premises taking part including the Bishops Manor, the Minster and St Cuthbert's Lodge.
In Newport there will be activities at the Methodist Church on the same day between 10am-4pm, with a treasure hunt for youngsters.
South of the River Ouse, Marshlands Local History Group will be preparing a series of trails visiting the churches and chapels in the area from Swinefleet to Adlingfleet, which will be open for visits on Saturday and Sunday, September 12-13.
Coordinator of the organising group, Avory Brown said: "There is still time for other groups to take part, and feature buildings in their area.
"We are especially keen to include those that are not usually open to the public, which is the original idea behind the Open Days initiative."
A call is also being made to individuals and families who might want to share the histories of their own homes, or who have researched other buildings in the area.
Anyone with items for display, such as old and current photos, brief text about the history or architecture, any notes on any unusual or quirky features, previous occupants, is urged to contact the organisers.
Organisation of the weekend is being shared by volunteers and more help is always welcomed, both on the day and to research and prepare exhibitions beforehand.
