FRESH local produce attracted hundreds of people to The Courtyard on Sunday for Goole's first farmers' market.
The event was an overwhelming success with many stallholders selling out only two hours into the day.
Among the goods on offer were plants, fruit, vegetable, bread, cakes and sausages - from farms and businesses across Yorkshire.Linda Thornton, centre director at the Boothferry Road community project told the Courier: "A lot of stallholders had sold out by 11am so they were absolutely thrilled and they have asked if they can be sited in the same place next time.
"I have had a lot of postive feedback from members of the public too. We must have had at least 500 people there.
"We will be getting more stall holders coming on board as a lot of the produce is seasonal and we are expecting more next time.
"It was also a good social occasion too with people saying they met up with people they hadn't seen for years.
"It was really successful, and it's promoting health and well being with people eating the right sorts of food."
She added: "The fact this worked so well will really give us the confidence to do other things in the future and we are working with Goole Town Council and Goole In Bloom and we are going to have an horticultural show here too on Saturday August 2."
Goole MP Ian Cawsey said: "I was honoured to participate in the opening of the first farmers' market at the Courtyard. It was a brilliant day and I was staggered by the sheer number of local people who attended the event.
"We had a wonderful selection of stalls, some excellent produce to buy and everyone I spoke to had nothing but praise for the organisation of it all.
"I would like to thank Linda Thornton for all her hard work in putting this together. I hope it is the first of many monthly farmers' markets in Goole and if local people continue to show the same huge level of support then there is no reason why the market cannot go from strength to strength in the future."
The next farmers' market will take place on Saturday May 25 from 9am-1pm.
