BARBECUERS caused a fire at the historic Ashes pavilion in Howden over the weekend.
Howden fire crew were called to the Treeton Road site at 11.07pm on Sunday after receiving a report that the floor of the building was ablaze.

Firefighters had to force entry into the premises with breaking in tools, and used a hose reel, Scotty back pack, buckets of water and circular saw to deal with the fire.

A spokesman said: "The fire had started as a result of a disposable barbecue being left on the floor.

"And we should issue a timely reminder of what the possible dangers leaving such things unattended can create."
