PLANS for a nursery at Rawcliffe Bridge School have been backed by Goole's MP.

Ian Cawsey visited the education centre recently to discuss their plans for a foundation unit on their site, which would cater for 26 nursery and reception children aged between three to five.

The East Riding of Yorkshire Council has already granted permission and architects are currently finalising plans on the design.

Mr Cawsey said: "I was very interested to learn about the work the school has already undertaken to help make this nursery a reality.

"They have clearly worked hard on this and the research they have completed shows there is a need and enough nursery age children to make it possible."

The nursery will be built in the school's old kitchen and dining room which are redundant.

Headteacher Hilary Leach told the Courier: "We are hoping it will be open in October though it was supposed to be September.

"We are very pleased about it because there is no pre-school provision at all at Rawcliffe Bridge and we have fought long and hard for a couple of years to get it."

She added: "The benefits will be the children will have pre-school education when they start here and they will be at a better level as they progress.

"We are hoping to put in breakfast and after school clubs for all children so parents will be able to take their children after work and meet their childcare arrangements."

Plans from the architects are set to be finished next week, and will include an outdoor covered play area, with work on the build set to begin in July.

A total of 11 spaces will be taken up by reception children and eight nursery places have already been taken.

Anyone interested in booking their child in at the nursery is asked to contact the school.
