GOVERNMENT support to promote British Aerospace (BAE) in Brough has been assured which is hoped to result in more orders.
Goole MP Ian Cawsey arranged and attended a meeting between the unions from BAE and Baroness Taylor the Minister for Defence Procurement at the Ministry of Defence.

It was organised to discuss the assistance the Government may be able to give to b
e flexible with their own orders from the Brough site and to help lobby other Governments that are considering buying British Hawks or Typhoons.

Ian said: “I was very willing to respond to the request from the local trade unions to organise this meeting.

“Future orders are obviously key to the future viability of the Brough site and it’s important to us as they employ people from all over the area as well as using extensive supply chains that provide other jobs.

“In fairness the Ministry of Defence has been willing in the past to try to be flexible with their own orders to ensure that other orders can be accommodated and we have all appreciated their help.”

He added: “Baroness Taylor listened carefully to all we had to say.

“She understands the importance of the Brough site to our area and I think we all felt we had a sympathetic hearing, with an assurance that the Government would do what they can to promote BAE bids to other Governments.

“Hopefully the result will be new orders for the Brough site which will be welcomed by all who work there”.
