SECURITY staff checks have been carried out on licensed premises across the East Riding this month, including Goole.
The checks were carried out by investigators from the Security Industry Authority (SIA), Humberside Police and East Riding of Yorkshire Council.
It is an offence to work as a door supervisor without a valid SIA licence and which carries a maximum
sentence of six months imprisonment and/or a fine of up to £5,000.
A total of nine licensed premises were visited in Goole, Hessle, Beverley and Bridlington, with 27 subsequent checks on door supervisors.
All were found to be licensed but three individuals were warned for not displaying their licence.
Jacqueline Parker, head of investigation for SIA, said: “The results from this operation are very positive.
“The majority of door staff were complying with the law and recognise the importance and value of holding a valid SIA licence.
“However, it was a little disappointing to find three door staff not observing licence conditions, as the licence provides reassurance for the public that the holder is trained, qualified and professional.”
Chris Chapman, of Humberside Police, revealed that much hard work has been carried out in recent months within the East Riding to ensure that people operating as door staff are suitable, qualified and holders of the SIA licence.
Tina Holtby, acting licensing manager at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, added: “It is vital that people feel safe when they go out to bars, pubs and clubs in the
and door staff play an integral role in helping to maintain public safety.
“We look forward to working with the SIA and Humberside Police on more operations and will continue with our ongoing licensing checks.”
SIA licenses can be checked in the register of license holders on the SIA website www.the-sia.org.uk.
