HARD work added up to success for brainy pupils.
Snaith School students Rebecca White, Ryan Elsley, Sam Nixon and Charlotte Amber won the annual mathematics competition at NEW College in Pontefract last Wednesday.

After last year's tie between Brayton College and Crofton High School, the 2009 year ten contest was bound to be fiercely fought. And yet again, the results were close!

After a series of active mathematical puzzles, teams of students from nine local schools took part in a particularly challenging numbers quiz, hosted by John Seymour – a year 13 further maths student.

After a tough tie-breaker question, The Snaith School pipped holders Brayton College to claim the coveted cup.

College head of maths Brendon Fletcher said: "It's been great to welcome the students into the college, and the level of their maths and problem solving have been outstanding.

"We're really pleased they were able to join us and take part so enthusiastically.
