The initiative was launched from April 28 to May 2, and helped to catch 13 litter droppers.

It was organised as a joint venture between East Riding of Yorkshire Council's streetscene and anti-social behaviour teams with Humberside Police community support officers.

Richard Stork, streetscene enforcement officer, said: "To a degree we saw an encouraging change in behaviour since a lot of young people made a deliberate point of putting their litter in the bin.

"We have also started contacting local food shops asking them to take measures to try and reduce the amounts of their packaging which ends up as litter as on the streets."

He added: "I would like to give a massive thanks to everyone from Humberside Police in Goole for all the help and assistance given throughout the week."

All of the litter droppers were aged under 17 and so far seven have confirmed that they will take part in a litter pick in Goole instead of receiving a £75 fixed penalty notice (FPN).

Two litter droppers supplied the officers with false details and will both therefore receive £75 FPN.

The anti-litter week also caught one dog fouler in the shopping precinct area who supplied false details and will be prosecuted.
