Staff and residents from Fernbank Court in Selby have been celebrating after, Hanover, awarded Caterplus Services Ltd a share of its £25 million extra care catering contract.

The new contract will commence on April 1 and will cover 28 of the specialist retirement housing provider’s 70 Extra Care housing estates nationwide.

Paul Robottom Managing Diector of Caterplus said: “We are delighted to be awarded this prestigious contract with Hanover. We will be working closely with the residents to ensure fresh, homemade and nutritious food using our regional suppliers is served. Our flexible approach will allow our residents the choice and quality of food which matters to them.”

The five year contract has been split into three regions. Incumbent catering provider Elior has retained the contracts for the South and West whilst Caterplus has secured the contract for the North.

Hanover’s Head of Operations North Tom Brown added: “We’ve listened to residents’ views and it’s clear that residents really value their catering service. They want fresh, high quality & nutritionally balanced meals with plenty of choices which suit different tastes and needs.”

In order to represent residents’ views and to assist with the catering tender Hanover’s Catering and Procurement team recruited 65-year old resident Janet Mizzen to research and collate residents’ views.

Janet said: “Selecting a good catering provider is paramount if older people are to maintain good health through healthy eating.”
