IT MAY not be the usual business arrangement, but Judith Russell and son-in-law Andy Haskins have forged a healthy partnership.

The pair are now working together to deliver Pilates Plus sessions at Eversley Park Centre in Sherburn.

Andy, 22, who also teaches boxercise, said: “Our biggest regret is that we don’t have many male exercisers. Pilates Plus is not just for women.”

Andy, who played football for England schoolboys and signed a professional contract with Nottingham Forest, had to give it all up because of a serious knee injury.

He said: “My footballing career came to an abrupt end and I was left with the daunting task of deciding what to do next.

“I had always enjoyed the physical aspect of being a professional footballer so it seemed a logical step to become a personal trainer.

“Following this decision I have enjoyed six years of working with people in one-to-one and group situations to help achieve their fitness related goals.

“Throughout my time as a personal trainer I have taught a wide variety of exercise classes but I honestly feel that ‘Pilates Plus’ is an exercise class that can aid people to make improvements in every aspect of fitness including postural correction, body awareness and control, core strength and endurance, weight loss, whole body strength and endurance, flexibility, cardiovascular fitness and relaxation.”

The alternating classes allow members to apply principles learned in Pilates to everyday movements and exercises.

He said: “I feel that the similarities shared by Judith and I in relation to exercise - together with the differences in experiences that we have, enable us to appeal to any individual, regardless of age, gender or exercise experience.

And he added: “Due to our common beliefs and interests, the son-in-law and mother-in-law combination is proving to be a great success!”
