Struggling to pay the mortgage

JUST over one in five rent or mortgage payers in the North East of the country are constantly struggling to keep up with their payments, new research from Shelter has revealed.

The research conducted by YouGov and Shelter showed a rise from 18 per cent in December 2011 to 21 per cent in December 2012 in the number of rent or mortgage payers in the North East constantly struggling to keep up with their payments.

That means over 330,000 people across the region are now starting the New Year facing a monthly battle to keep a roof over their heads, with a total of 7.8 million Brits also now in that position.
