Summer fun comes to the town centre
Beach
Summer fun is promised when Wesley Sqare/Paradise Place will be swamped with tonnes of the golden grains which will arrive by lorry at 7am and which will be poured onto tarpaulin ready for a packed programe of activities for all ages.
The event is a collaboration between local businesses, Goole Renaissance, Goole Town Council, community groups, East Riding of Yorkshire Council (ERYC) and the Sobriety Project, with many local companies sponsoring the event.
ERYC’s Play Section will take the lead in providing fun and games for the younger children on one half of the beach, including sand castle competitions, water play, catch games and story telling, between 10am and 4pm.
For older children, on the other half, more sport orientated activities such as beach volleyball, rounders and French cricket will be on offer.
A sound stage, run by Goole Town Council, will run from 10am and will feature entertainers as well as turning the spotlight on the talents of Goole residents.
Local bands have been invited to tune up and sign up for the event, where they have been offered a 20 minute slot each during which to entertain the crowds. Bands with performers up to the age of 21 have been given priority, with one slot available for an adult band.
Other attractions will include paddling pools and water pistols; junk modelling; a puppet show; and a mermaid walk-about.
There will also be a Beach King and Queen and the stage entertainment will include a steel band, a brass band and a soul band.
The town centre will also be host to a variety of street entertainers such as stilt walkers, theatre shows, jugglers and unicyclists.
At 4pm, the sand will be scooped up but the festival will continue on the sound stage until 8pm.
Anyone wishing to help with/sponsor the event is asked to contact Nial Adams, on (01482) 392770 or email nial.adams@eastriding.gov.uk.
