Update to proposed road works along the B1228

Traffic congestion at Carleton crossing due to roadworks in Poulton.

THE eight-week road closure of the B1228 for carriageway reconstruction works, which was due to commence tomorrow, Monday February 4, has been delayed for a week in order to allow groundwater levels to be measured.

The testing will be done in order to be certain whether the current high groundwater levels being experienced in the area will have an adverse affect on the carriageway recycling process.

Provided that the results of the testing demonstrate suitable conditions, the two sections of reconstruction at the locations will be carried out simultaneously in order to keep the road closure periods to a minimum:

Site one, between Fog Lane and General Lane, Ellerton, will see works carried out in two phases, between Rossmoor Lodge Junction and Ash Lane cross roads, starting on Monday, 11 February, and between Ash Lane and Ellerton Common Junction, starting on Monday February 25.

Site two, on Street Lane, Bubwith, will also be carried out in two phases, between the A163 junction at Bubwith and Breighton Airfield, starting on Monday February 11, and phase two, between Brieghton Airfield and the junction near Spaldington, starting on Monday February 25.

Access through the two sites will only be permitted for residents and businesses within the limits of the reconstruction works and a signed traffic diversion will be in place for through traffic, via A1079 Dunnington - Shiptonthorpe roundabout - A614 - Holme-on-Spalding-Moor - Howden, alternatively traffic can divert to the west via A64 York - A19 - A63 Howden.

Access will be maintained for emergency services, shop deliveries, refuse collection, mobile library, mobile optician and postal services.

Bus and school bus services to surrounding villages will be maintained although some disruption will be unavoidable due the nature of works.
