LITERALLY entering the lions’ den may not be everyone’s idea of a fun way to spend the night.

But hundreds of people are queueing up to do just that at the Yorkshire Wildlife Park, in Branton, Doncaster.

The zoo put out an appeal for people to come forward to sleep with the lions they rescued from Romania.

And director Cheryl Williams said they had been deluged with people wanting to do it.

The offer is part of a plan to raise money for Comic Relief next month. Those selected will spend the night in the enclosure with the lions, separated only by bars.

Those who have come forward to ask to volunteer to take part include an army veteran who toured Iraq three times, conservationists aiming to raise awareness of the plight of lions in the wild and big cat fans.

Ms Williams said: “A lot of people want to do it because it’s Comic Relief and a lot of people are curious about big cats.”
