Job-seekers’ free bus travel

SELBY job-seekers are to be boosted by free bus travel in the New Year, as part of a new travel initiative.
Those who have been unemployed for between three months and a year, will be eligible to travel on certain Arriva routes within the region throughout the whole of January.
The ‘Bus for Jobs’ scheme is part of the Greener Journeys campaign, a coalition of Britain’s leading bus companies and other supporters, which is dedicated to encouraging people to make more sustainable travel choices.
The scheme will allow jobseekers the opportunity to travel to interviews and make use of the services in the area from Tuesday, January 1 until Thursday, January 31.
Those eligible for the month-long initiative will have to be in receipt of a Job Centre Plus Travel Discount card, which includes those on Jobseekers’ Allowance, Incapacity Benefit, Employment and Support Allowance or Income Support.
Nigel Featham, the managing director for Arriva in Yorkshire, praised the scheme and the positive effects it will have.
He said: “We’re delighted to be taking part in this initiative.
“Free bus travel will enable jobseekers across Yorkshire to make the most of the transport network this January and hopefully widen their opportunities for work.”
Details will be announced shortly with regards to the full list of services that have signed up to the scheme in the Selby area.
