A 62-YEAR-OLD Cliffe man is facing a lengthy prison sentence for child abuse after changing his plea to guilty.
Robert Ascough, of Turnham Lane, appeared before York Crown Court on Monday on charges relating to two victims.
The change of plea was made on the day that Ascough was due to stand trial on the charges.
The first of the boys was assaulted by Ascough on dates between March 1977 and February 1981, when he was aged between 12 and 16, the second on dates between August 1995 and August 1999, when the complainant was under 14-years-old.
In total Ascough has now admitted eight charges of indecent assault on a male, one of buggery and one of attempted rape, on the victims who cannot be identified for legal reasons.
Ascough, who has no previous convictions on his record, was re-admitted to conditional bail by Judge Shaun Spencer.
Taryn Turner, defending, said that her client realised that he would be facing a substantial prison sentence, but had always answered his bail throughout the proceedings.
Ascough, who has no previous convictions, was bailed on condition that he has no contact with the two, now adult, alleged victims. He is also barred from having any unsupervised contact with anyone under 16, has to reside at his home address and comply with the production of a pre-sentence report.
Mrs Turner said a psychiatric report was also being sought on her client, who, has been ordered to register as a sex offender.
The case was adjourned until March 11.
