HUNDREDS of thirsty real ale fans drank George and Dragon pub in West Haddlesey dry during its fourth annual Octoberfest at the weekend.
There were about ten ales on sale from the Brown Cow Brewery in Barlow including first to sell out, Mollie Sharp’s Legacy – a beer brewed in memory of the mum of the owner of Mollie Sharp’s cheese shop in Finkle Street, Selby, Richard Sharp.
Other beers on sale included Suddaby’s Golden Choice, Elland Brewery’s Curiosity, Glentworth Brewery in Doncaster’s Beacon White, and Great Heck Brewery’s Powermouse.
Pub owners, Paul and Shirley Torkington, said the event was “fantastic” with Shirley adding: “What a great success! The band, Harkin’s Bike, played on Friday night and went down really well, as did The Breeze playing on Saturday. The pub was packed, particularly on Saturday night, and we sold out of beer.” A total of 60 vouchers printed in the Selby Times for a free half pint of beer at the festival were handed over by our thirsty readers.
Shirley further added: “At the festival we also managed to raise £300, which will go towards a free firework display for our customers on November 5, Bonfire Night.”
