A SCHOOL cook hung up her apron for the last time and bid farewell after 24 years of service.

Ann Caddick, 60, from Wombwell, has been cooking up hot dinners for pupils at Montagu Junior School since 1988.

She has served as chief cook for the past 15 years and was credited by colleagues for championing healthy eating within school.

Throughout the years, Ann has also taken the unusual step of inviting parents in to eat alongside their children.

Such is her popularity among pupils that they created a biography for her, detailing her years at the school.

She was presented with cards and flowers during a special assembly on her last day on Friday.

Deputy headteacher Judith Astwood said: “Ann has been a great cook for the school and is extremely popular with pupils, parents and staff.

“She is loyal, hard working and has always had a great sense of humour.

“She has always promoted healthy eating and we at the school wish her all the best for the future.”
