Badgers fall under spotlight

Badger Awareness Day in March.

Badger Awareness Day in March.

Selby Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation are holding a badger awareness day next month.

Taking place on Sunday 24th March 2013 the day will start at 11am and will include a presentation, slide show and talk.

Participants will learn more about this shy and elusive creature including how to recognise the field signs, and also learn about the dangers which badgers face.

After a refreshment break, there will be a walk to an active badger sett where along the way, participants will be able to identify the field signs learned in the morning session.

There will be plenty of time for questions and answers and useful tips on how to watch badgers successfully. The day will finish at approximately 3pm.

The cost is £10 per person and bookings can be made by ringing Annette Pyrah on 07803 180720 or by emailing selbywildlife@aol.com.

All proceeds will go to Selby Wildlife Rescue’s Spring Orphan Appeal which has been set up to try and deal with the huge influx of orphaned wildlife babies.

Annette, manager of Selby Wildlife Rehabilitation said “We are launching our Spring Orphan Appeal to raise funds for this exceptionally busy time.

“We need to buy more incubators and accommodation in which to house these babies.

“Sometimes they land on our doorstep just a few hours old and need specialist care and round the clock attention.”

They are holding a tombola in aid of the orphan appeal this Saturday at Barlby High School, from 2-4pm.
