Beauty spot to get a paint job

A BRIDGE at a beauty spot in Carlton has been spruced up with a lick of fresh paint thanks to the efforts of a local councillor.
East Riding of Yorkshire councillor John Barrett (right) managed to get the bridge freshly painted after help from officers of neighbouring North Yorkshire County Council.
He said that in October 2010, as a result of Snaith and Cowick Community Plan survey, it was clear that residents wanted a picnic area down Ferry Lane near the village.
Snaith and Cowick Together group formed a further community and leisure sub group to deal with the project and managed to get four picnic tables installed.
However the bridge struts next to the recreation site were covered in graffiti and Coun Barrett said they made the area look a bit of an eyesore and belonged to NYCC.
Coun Barrett said: “I successfully negotiated with NYCC and liased with Snaith and Cowick Together group and community and leisure group and the paint job was thankfully carried out”.
He continued: “It was decided the struts be painted with anti-graffiti paint. This meant two coats of primer followed by special paint. It was quite costly. North Yorkshire Council needed some match funding before they could give the go ahead.
“I put in £500 of my former Snaith and Cowick Town Mayor’s Charity fund and NYCC agreed to pay for the remainder. Snaith and Cowick Together chose the paint colour and the whole job was completed just before Christmas. I am so pleased NYCC and Snaith & Cowick together group helped with this and I could help.”
