Bogus callers get the bird in Selby District

POLICE in Selby have issued a warning to beware of bogus callers after a gang were found to be preying on the elderly in the district.

They say elderly residents are being approached by the gang saying there is a bird trapped in their roof and they must investigate.

The bogus callers have then been invited in and go upstairs to rid the house of the bird. Police say nothing has been taken from any of the houses but they are sking the elderly to be extra vigilant asnd ask for identification before allowing anyone in.

A police spokesman said: “The bogus callers appear to go into the attic of houses they visit and say they can put in lagging for £400. If anyone has infomation on this call 101.”
