A BOXING show staged by a Selby-based club was stopped after a fight broke out.
A halt was called to Friday fight night Eggborough Sports and Social Club autumn show bouts.
The break came after one of the visiting clubs caused a fight, according to Mickey Bradshaw, head coach of hosts Mickey’s Boxing Academy. Police were called to the scene but no arrests were made.
“Only two people were involved and it was dealt with quickly by security,” Mr Bradshaw said, adding that only nine bouts were completed as a result.
Boss of the Douglas Street gym, Mr Bradshaw told Selby Times the event had witnessed “some fantastic bouts”.
He stressed: “The club was very disappointed with the conduct of the two individuals, all the more so as this was a memorial show for Phil Cleary and Beanie Smith.”
Both were tragically killed in recent road accidents and had strong connections with the club, which has had a big impact on youth in the community since it was formed.
