A BRIGHT and bubbly author filled Skipwith Hall with colour when she visited to promote her latest book and give a lecture on flower bulbs.

Renowned nurserywoman Lady Skelmersdale has just released her new book ‘A Gardener’s Guide to Bulbs’ and last Friday she gave a lecture to the to the Plantsmanship and Planting Design Group. Having spent 40 years growing and showing bulbs at her nursery, Broadleigh Bulbs, Christine Skelmersdale has exhibited at more than 200 RHS flower shows including Chelsea and won many gold medals. In 2009 the RHS Council presented her with the Victoria Medal of Honour for outstanding service to horticulture.

Christine Skelmersdale returned to her Yorkshire roots having grown up in Nidderdale, in the village of Hampsthwaite near Harrogate. The garden at Skipwith Hall is open to the public for the National Garden Scheme each summer.
