Burglars foiled

POLICE are advising residents in the area to be on guard against festive thieves after two attempted break-ins.

The first happened on Friday, December 7, at a house in Holray Park, Carlton between 10.30am and 2.30pm.

The would-be thieves smashed a window but left empty-handed after an alarm went off.

The following Monday, December 10, saw a similar incident occur at a house in Hall Farm Close, Riccall around 11am.

The householder went downstairs to discover two people trying to force their way in through the back door, before running off just as the tenant rang the police.
