Campaigning councillor demands cash contribution for homes built in Camblesforth
A CAMPAIGNING Selby district councillor is demanding cash towards a recreational play area before approval is given to a housing scheme in Camblesforth.
An application by Lampertia Ltd to convert existing disused outbuildings and selective new build for 14 new homes at Camblesforth Hall in Brigg Lane has been deferred, as Coun Shaw-Wright and other objectors asked for a contribution of £14,000 towards play equipment under a Section 106 agreement.
Under Section 106 developers are asked to contribute money towards open space and play facilities in an area of new build.
Coun Shaw-Wright said: “SDC planners had not seen fit to ask for a Section 106 agreement re open space and play equipment – their reason, because there is a playing field nearby!
“The value of the 106 contribution could be in the region of £14,000. I am sure the parish council would welcome this cash towards the upkeep of the existing play areas.
“SDC planners seemed happy not to secure a contribution for play area maintenance, and didn’t push for even one low-cost home.
“Fortunately the planning committee supported me and sent the planner back to renegotiate the conditions.”
He added that under planning guidelines the Selby district-wide Local Plan refers to recreational open space and requirements for its provision and said this policy sets the threshold for the provision of recreational open space on new residential development of five or more dwellings.
He added: “Planners agreed that clearly this application meets this threshold and recreational open space provision would be required.”
