Churches unite
GOOLE’S churches are joining together for ten days of prayer for the community and wider world, from today.
To start the series, a joint service will be held at St Joseph’s Church on Ascension Day (today) at 7.30pm, led by Methodist minister Revd Colin Emerson.
The prayers then move to the Boothferry Road precinct tomorrow and June 10, praying for the town and taking requests from the public.
Next Wednesday a walk will set off from St John’s Church at 7pm going through the town, stopping to pray at several places.
The ten days end with a 24-hour chain of prayer at Trinity Methodist Church, from 6pm on June 11.
This is the second year that Goole Churches Together has organised the prayer event, which was originally the idea of the Church of England’s Sheffield Diocese, which includes Goole.
Goole Churches Together secretary, Mr Shaun Clarkson, said: “Praying for Goole and its people is a regular part of our church lives, but the ten days gives us a particular focus to pray together as a team of churches, and the public events make it easier for people to share their prayer needs with us, whether they be problems or joys.”
