Councillor at service for kids
SNAITH councillor Caroline Fox has been helping to train young people working towards a hospitality certificate at the town’s Snaith Youth Centre.
The centre, which is sited in the grounds of Snaith School has been helping the youngsters by offering them a hospitality taster course.
Elements of the course include personal hygiene, personal presentation and laying dinner tables. When the course is completed the students receive a hospitality certificate.
Youth support worker Marjorie McBride said: “All these skills will be required if the young people decide they want to take up employment in the hospitality areas of work, especially in restaurants or public houses serving food. Throughout the training the young people are set quizzes on what they have learnt.”
Mrs Fox, who has herself worked in the hospitality trade and trained at Monk Fryston Hall Hotel, volunteered to train the young people in the laying of tables.
She said: “It is some time since I worked in the hospitality trade. I felt I could help these young persons by showing the way tables should be laid and how to fold napkins.
“I found that I really enjoyed the opportunity and it seemed that the young people enjoyed themselves.”
Fellow ERYC councillor John Barrett added: “I was amazed to see how interested and enthralled these young people were for a full hour whilst Caroline worked with them. They really seemed to get a lot out of it.”
The youngsters taking part in the course are aged 13 and 14. Anyone interested in the course or in the youth centre can visit on Tuesdays between 6 and 8.30pm and Thursdays from 7 to 9.30pm.
