Developers help bid for another silver award

PROPERTY developers Sterling Capitol have donated money for 24 hanging baskets to brighten up Boothferry Road and to help Goole win a third successive Silver award in the annual Yorkshire in Bloom competition.

The company, which is developing Capitol Park at Junction 36 of the M62, believe it is very important to contribute to the Goole community.

Chief executive Martin Croxen said: "We are delighted to be able to help Goole Town Council in its bid to win an award in Yorkshire in Bloom this year.

"In addition to our help with Goole in Bloom, we are bringing forward the beautiful 130 acre Oakhill Country Park and Nature Reserve at Capitol Park, creating a haven of ecology and tranquillity.

"We are proud of our commitment to Goole. Apart from creating more than 1,000 sustainable jobs at Capitol Park in a difficult economic climate, we also want to contribute to the community.

"Our commitment to Goole in Bloom is a tangible example of this," he explained.

Coun Jean Kitchen, who is in charge of Goole in Bloom, said: "We are deeply indebted to Sterling Capitol for their very generous help with Goole in Bloom this year.

"The hanging baskets have lifted Boothferry Road so much, making it into a most colourful gateway into the town.

"For the past two years we have won a Silver award in the Goole in Bloom competition and we would dearly love to make this a hat-trick.

"There is a higher Silver award, called a Silver Gilt, which we could win and I would like to thank Sterling Capitol for bringing this dream a step closer," she said.

The hanging baskets are watered each day by 17-year-old Goole College students Garath Chatten and Steven Underwood, who are on an Entry to Employment course.

The results of this year's Yorkshire in Bloom completion will be announced in September, with final judging taking place next month.

By the time Capitol Park, Goole, is completed, it is hoped that more than 5,000 jobs will have been created there.

Occupants of the site already include Tesco, Drax and Guardian Glass. A new road from the business park to Goole will also be built.
