District floods hell

Waiting for Video...

SEVERE flooding has caused chaos for residents and motorists across the region with emergency services on high flood alert.

At Carlton in Snaith a team of seven officers from the Environment Agency, led by Sarah Clarke (above), were on the scene 150 metres from the Carlton Road Bridge, after concerns water from the flooded River Aire was leaking through vermin holes in the flood bank.

She said the team was keeping a “watching brief” to ensure the holes did not get any worse, but she did not envisage river levels rising following the deluge of the past 48 hours. We don’t envisage any more heavy rainfall and the situation is now in hand.”

At the weather station at Lynton-on-Ouse a spokesman said the district had endured 60mm of rainfall in 48 hours with the average for the whole of September being 51.5mm.
