THOUSANDS more homes and businesses are set to benefit after it was revealed yesterday that a further 34 North Yorkshire locations are to be included in the roll out of superfast broadband.
Included in that list were Camblesforth, Hemingbrough and South Milford - which in turn will servs the likes of Sherburn, Monk Fryston and Hillam - which are set to benefit from highly improved internet access by the end of March.
Superfast North Yorkshire (SFNY), which is delivering the upgraded broadband, announced that the next stage of the roll out will help create jobs and give a big boost to the local economy, and the news have been welcomed by Howard Ferguson, MP Nigel Adams’ parliamentary secretary.
He told the Selby Times: “This is quite exciting as it is bigger than the list indicates. The objective is to cover the whole of North Yorkshire by 2014 and there will be more announcements like this made over the next 12 months as it rolls out.
“It’s very encouraging.”
He added that both he and Mr Adams had been feeding back any issues with existing broadband that residents had to SFNY so the problems could be addressed.
Councillor Carl Les, SFNY chairman, added: “Investment in fibre and faster broadband speeds will be a key part of our economic revival as we finally shrug off the effects of the downturn and create a better, more prosperous future.”
