Flytip wasters facing action!

AN ANGRY Sherburn district councillor has urged prosecutions against flytippers dumping waste in part of the village he claims is being turned into an eyesore.

Coun Mike Jordan said an area of Sir John’s Lane, heading out of the village towards Lotherton, had become a dumping ground for builder’s rubbish and he was urging those getting rid of their waste to think before discarding.

He said the area was a favourite spot for getting rid of rubbish and he wanted it stopped.

He added: “In the past few weeks this has intensified. There are bricks, tiles and other materials dumped and it seems as though builders are coming here specifically to get rid of any materials. It makes the area look a real mess and I urge those doing this to think whether they would like this kind of thing happening on their doorstep – it’s totally unacceptable.”

He said photographs of the flytipping site had been taken and he would be showing these to officers at SDC and asking them to clear up the mess.

Coun Jordan added: “I urge people to keep an aye out for any flytippers and report them immediately. If we find out who they are they will face prosecution and a hefty fine. It’s frustrating that rubbish is cleared from this area and then fresh waste replaces it once it’s cleared.

“I believe that educating people about how much heartache this causes is the only way to prevent people from doing this and making the area unpleasant for everyone. Anyone who sees anything to report this illegal activity to SDC straight away. It will be cleared and hopefully something can be done to stop it recurring.”
